Learn + Work – Higher Certificate in Science in Computing in Networking Technologies
The ability to tap into a pool of highly skilled, creative and innovative jobseekers has been the driving force behind Ireland becoming home to some of the biggest global companies. At Institute of Technology Blanchardstown (ITB) we partner with Technology Ireland ICT Skillnet to develop programmes, coach and train student recruits and provide highly educated, work-ready graduates that are responsive to the changing needs of industry. This partnership process, we call Learn + Work.
Learn + Work is a pioneering third level programme led by ITB and designed in collaboration with industry, combining blocks of academic study with blocks of paid work placement. This two-year programme offers companies the opportunity to hire and mentor students and develop a pipeline of skilled talent. Upon completion, students are awarded a Higher Certificate in Science in Computing and Networking Technologies and have the opportunity to progress to the BSc (Honours) in Computing in Digital Forensics and Cyber Security at ITB.
Students like Emmet Quinn from Raheny receive exposure to experienced and creative mindsets, whilst making valuable connections with innovative companies such as Fleet Connect, who provide Wi-Fi and technology solutions for public transport.
For Emmet, the paid work experience was a real clincher in applying for the course, helping him to keep his independence and focus on his studies, which other courses might not have provided. “The lack of fees allows me much more time to focus on my studies and puts me at a great advantage in terms of having the time to work on assignments and certifications. The certifications themselves are also massively beneficial to my professional development, and for future job applications”.
The programme is currently open for applications at www.itb.ie/learnandwork for Year 1 commencing in September 2017. For more information contact Mark on +353 1 8851035 or mark.Keyes@itb.ie
