Online Portal now open for Apprenticeship Employer Grant

31 May 2022

The Apprenticeship Employer Grant provides financial support from the State to apprenticeship employers who employ apprentices on one of the 40 apprenticeships which have been established since 2016 and which do not attract payment of off-the-job training allowances.

New apprenticeships introduced in 2022 and subsequent years will be automatically included in the grant scheme.

Apprenticeship employers are eligible to receive a €2,000 grant annually for each registered apprentice, effective from 01 January 2022. This includes apprentices who were registered before 01 January 2022 and who are still employed as apprentices.

The grant will be paid in arrears in 2 payments annually, with €1,000 payable mid-year and a further €1,000 at year-end. For 2-year apprenticeships, employers are eligible to claim up to €4000 over the period. For 3-year apprenticeships employers are eligible for up to €6,000 and up to €8,000 on a 4-year apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Online now open for grant applications

From 26 May 2022 the Apprenticeship Online portal is open to receive applications from eligible employers for a first instalment of the grant. Employers who believe they are eligible for the grant but who have not yet registered for Apprenticeship Online can contact to register.

This payment process for 2022 will be carried out again in November-December via the online portal for a second €1,000 instalment per apprentice and will be repeated annually for eligible apprentices and employers.
